Team sizes from Sept 2026

As normal, all teams will move up an age group next season which starts September 2026. However some age groups will see a different format across the country in line with FA guidance. The SBMSC is planning to operate the following formats next season:-

  • Under 7 squad will be made up of four teams, each with three players. Four games will play simultaneously on four 3v3 pitches, which take the same space as a 5v5 pitch. So squads of 12 players will attend each match to play these 3v3 games. SBMSC will continue its policy of allowing clubs unable to field 12 players to find a “Buddy club” to complete the squad.
  • Under 8 will play two 5v5 games as in previous seasons.
  • Under 9 will play two 5v5 games. This is a change from previous seasons when the format was 7v7
  • Under 10 will play 7v7 format as in previous seasons.
  •  Under 11 will play 7v7 format with 2 teams of 7 fielded by each club. This is a change from previous seasons when the format was a single 9v9 team. The season will start with  development matches and then become competitive. The aggregate top and second clubs will play in a final at Thame FC.
  • Under 12 will play a nine a side game as in previous seasons. This will be Developmental football, though in November a Cup competition will start up.
  • Under 13 will play a nine-a-side game next season in alignment with FA guidance. Wycombe & South Bucks Minor Football League (WSBMFL) will be offering nine-a-side U13 competitions and expects to be hosting many divisions (currently there are 8).

Note: At the time of writing most other parts of the website refers to 2025-2026 season team formats, pitch and squad sizes. This will be updated in time. This article is intended to give an initial heads up about next season.

Club affiliations

Message for Team Managers about affiliating for next season:-

If your team would like to join us and play football matches against other clubs next season, then your club needs to become a member of SBMSC. This process is called affiliation.

If your club is not currently a member of SBMSC then you can make an initial enquiry here. We are open for affiliation enquiries between now and the end of the season (31st May).

If your club is already a member of SBMSC just let your club secretary know what your team wants to do next season. We will be contacting Club Secretaries of existing member clubs using contact detail we already hold, closer to the time. It is not necessary for existing member clubs to make a new affiliation enquiry.

Sin Bin for U11 & U12 showing dissent

Next season players who show dissent during a match will be sent to the Sin Bin. This will apply to all our matches. It is mandatory, so all leagues have no option but to bring it in. This will affect age groups Under 11 & Under 12 playing 9 v 9 and Under 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 playing 11 v 11.

County FA gave a Sin Bin talk to member clubs of Wycombe & South Bucks Minor Football League and the South Bucks Mini Soccer Conference on Tuesday 5th March 2019.

Update on 14th March:- Following the meeting we have the detailed description of the Sin Bin scheme. (PDF 4.446KB)
